What is Artificially Inflated Traffic (AIT)?
Artificially inflated traffic (AIT), also known as SMS pumping or traffic pumping, is a type of fraud in which fraudsters attempt to exploit automated dial-up (SMS) systems to trigger traffic spikes to numbers they own or to a range of numbers controlled by a specific mobile network operator with which they collude. The fraudsters collect a portion of the revenue generated in this way, but it is the CM.com account holder who pays the bill.

fraud-monitoring-sms-pumpingSMS pumping (AIT) is often recognized by a spike in messages sent to a block of consecutive numbers (i.e. +1234567890, +1234567891, +1234567892, +1234567893 and so on). These numbers are most likely controlled by the same carrier. An incomplete verification cycle is a telltale sign of fraudulent use of a one-time SMS access code. Unfortunately, experienced fraudsters have the tools to spoof a complete verification cycle.

The rise of SMS pumping fraud is a concern for the telecommunications industry an founder email lists ur business. Recognizing the problem our customers are facing, CM.com has launched a new protection solution to help keep your business safe.

Safeguard: Destination Management
The new “Safeguard: Destination Management” solution of our communication platform will allow you to protect yourself against AIT fraud by allowing you to set up a blacklist/whitelist of specific destinations directly from your interface.

Destination blocking
You can now selectively block messaging traffic to specific destinations. For example destinations that you do no business with, or where you have no activities or interests.

Authorization list
You can also implement an "allow list" approach, where all destinations are blocked by default except for countries explicitly added to the allow list.
